The creation of the new regions have sparked controversies in some of the intended areas and among the minority and Government.
Minority MPs in parliament led by their leader Hon. Haruna Iddrissu, argued that they will not take part in the passage of the bill unless they have been served with copies of the justice Brobbey commission of enquiry report which recommended creation of the new regions.
According to them, this would enable them to make meaning contribution to the report of the committee on subsidiary legislation on the LI for the creation of the new regions, which was being considered in the house.
However, Mr. Dan Botwe, the Minister for regional reorganisation had explained that per the law, the report was supposed be published after six months and the period wasn’t due but the minority MPs did not agree to that explanation.
The proposed new region are the Western North, Bono East, Ahafo, Savannah, North East and Oti regions.
